I’m excited to kick off the Usable Watts with this welcoming message! Usable Watts is a new platform dedicated to empowering battery experts through sharing knowledge, data resources, analysis tools and discussion.
The core mission is to build a collaborative toolkit of “Watts” - easy-to-use utilities to streamline and enhance the workflow of researchers, engineers, analysts and enthusiasts working on battery technologies. I want Usable Watts to be a hub where the battery community can come together, access valuable data and tools, debate intriguing news, and propel innovation further and faster.
To give you a taste of what’s to come, let me introduce the first Watt that started it all - WattRank!
Many of you may already know WattRank.com , as it was released in 2023 and was well received. I’m thrilled to now share this first Watt with the world as part of the Usable Watts platform. It is a data visualization and comparison tool aimed at mapping out the full landscape of battery cells and packs. By gathering specifications on a wide range of commercial and development-level energy storage devices, WattRank allows you to rapidly evaluate their key performance metrics on interactive plots.
Some of WattRank’s core capabilities include:
Whether you’re a researcher screening candidates for an upcoming project, an analyst assessing market readiness, or an investor evaluating competitive positioning - WattRank provides a quick first stop to cut through the noise.
This is just the start! Over the coming weeks and months, I’ll be rolling out more Watts and resources covering all aspects of battery R&D, manufacturing, testing, and applications. I also can’t wait to hear thoughts and insights from the community.
I invite you all to follow along, provide feedback, and get involved as I continue building out Usable Watts into a practical tools and knowledge hub for the battery field. This is my small contribution to the energy revolution, as it needs all the watts it can get!
