About
Usable Watts came to life in 2024 as a place to gather knowledge and tools that would help battery experts around the world in their work. The mission is to provide space where knowledge and data resources are collected, analysed, discussed and shared. Usable Watts main focus is on developing a toolkit that can be used across research and industry to make the life of scientists and engineers easier. These tools are here so-called ‘Watts’, and the first that came to life and started all of this was WattRank.
Wattrank came to be as a side project to create something useful for battery enthusiasts community while diving into Python and SQL. Marcin wanted to turn learning experience into something helpful for others, and so Wattrank was born! The goal is to gather data on battery cells and packs and provide a set of functions to rapidly compare and visualise their parameters. It helps researchers, analysts, investors etc. to place various technologies on the overall map of energy storage devices.
Marcin, originally from northern Poland, now is living in Swansea, UK. Has Materials Engineering MSc degree and Engineering doctorate in Materials and Manufacturing, with specialisation in Na-ion batteries. Worked as an R&D Manager at Redox.me, a small company making specialised electrochemical cells for research and materials development. Currently working as Senior Researcher at Swansea University on upscaling Na-ion batteries for industrial partner. All of these add up to over 10 years of experience in the energy storage field.

I develop this website in my free time and hope to keep it free to use for all and with full access to the data. If you find Usable Watts useful and want to support its development or just want to show appreciation, please consider buying me a cup of coffee. It will keep me motivated and help with the running costs of this site!
I’m also founder of Wattcrafts, which is company focused on making equipment for battery research and development. If you are looking for more of a hardware type of ‘watts’, please check out our website.
